The Forestry Division is responsible for the care and maintenance of the Village’s 10,000-plus parkway trees and others located on Village-owned property. Maintenance of these trees includes:
Insect and disease identification and treatment
Removal of dead, dying or diseased trees
Replacement of those trees annually
Inspecting and trimming of approximately 1/5 of the Village's parkway trees annually
Installing cable and bracing newly planted trees to extend useful street life
Responding to emergency storm damage
The Forestry Division is also responsible for meeting with residents to discuss tree health on both public and private property, coordinating review and compliance as it relates to public and private tree protection and preservation, and securing compliance of tree preservation and native area out lots maintenance requirements within many of the Village's subdivisions. The division also oversees the Adopt-A-Roadway Program and the Village's focus on the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB).
