Crime Prevention / D.A.R.E. Unit

The Crime Prevention Unit is comprised of two sworn officers who have received certified training in crime prevention techniques and methodology. These officers are responsible for the coordination and implementation of numerous crime prevention/community relations programs, including D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education), the Officer Friendly program, the Citizens' Police Academy, and "Cop Topics" (our cable television show). These officers also prepare press releases and newsletters, conduct station tours, conduct presentations to community and business groups, perform security surveys and coordinate many additional community-relations programs. The Crime Prevention Unit maintains information and resource material on most crime, personal safety and traffic safety topics. The Crime Prevention Unit routinely responds to citizen inquiries and concerns.

The members of the Crime Prevention Unit maintain a relationship with crime prevention officers from other communities through their participation in the Illinois Crime Prevention Association. This networking of officers enables all involved to share ideas, programs and give support to fellow Crime Prevention Officers.
