GARAGE SALE SIGNAGE IS ENFORCED, SO PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Permits are no longer required for garage sales effective February 7, 2006. You must comply with all other aspects of the Village Code regarding posting of signs.
Signs advertising garage sales cannot exceed 3 square feet in area (1½’x1½’) and are limited to the address, directional arrows and the phrase "Garage Sale". Garage sale signs may be installed for a period of 7 days but should be removed by 9:00 p.m. on the last day of the sale.
Signs can only be placed on private property with the permission of the property owner. Please have the property owner’s name and the phone number available upon request. Signs cannot be placed on or within the public right-of-way or any other public property (the grassy area located between the sidewalk and curb or the medians). Do not place signs on telephone poles, fences or parked cars. Balloons and streamers are not allowed.
When setting up for your sale, do not display your sale items on the public sidewalk, in the street or on the grassy area between the street and sidewalk.
In the event you have placed your signs in the wrong location, the Vernon Hills Police Department or Code Enforcement Officials will remove your signs and you may be subject to a fine.
