VILLAGE POSITION ON ACQUISITION OF
EJ&E RAILROAD BY CANADIAN NATIONAL RAILROAD
The letter below represents the Village’s position on the acquisition of the EJ&E Railroad. As noted, the key to this acquisition for our Village is Leithton or the junction just west of Prairie Material on Butterfield Road. From our review, the EJ&E to the east of this point between Gregg’s Landing and New Century Town will experience no additional trains.
On the CN south of the EJ&E impacting Deerpath, Hawthorn Club, Stone Fence, Centennial Crossing, and Sugar Creek, the number of trains, over a three year time frame once the acquisition is completed, will drop from 19.4 trains to 2 trains per day.
We feel this will have a substantial positive benefit for our community
