Law Enforcement Exhibition

In 2005, we hosted the inaugural Exhibition here in Vernon Hills. The event drew thousands of interested citizens locally and from all around the Chicagoland area. Due to its overwhelming success, Chief Mark Fleischhauer decided to make it an annual event. Furthermore, the event will always be scheduled during the week of September 11th, in order to honor our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice on that day in 2001.

This Exhibition was set up so police departments can show you the latest and greatest in crime prevention, education, and criminal detection. Think of it as one big "open house" where Lake County agencies will be present to show you the ins and outs of what the police can do for you - besides writing you a ticket!

In 2007, the following 21 Lake County agencies were on hand throughout the weekend:

During the Exhibition, there is always ample time to interact with police officers, climb through and on some of the equipment we use, and even witness / try out some of the training techniques we use to keep sharp. Here are just a few of the events we had lined up for everyone to check out:

DEMONSTRATIONS:
  • "Air One" Police Helicopter (provided by LEAC)
  • Defensive Tactics Demonstrations
  • K-9 Shows
OTHER INTERACTIVE DISPLAYS:
  • Child Safety Seat Trailer
  • Fatal Vision D.U.I. Goggles
    • Strap these goggles on and just try to walk a straight line!
  • Fingerprinting Demonstrations
  • Child Identification Kits
  • Button Making
  • 9-1-1 Simulator
    • Can your child dial 9-1-1? Does (s)he know what to do and say once they make the call? Find out!
PLUS:
  • McGruff the Crime Dog, an Equestrian Unit, specialized vehicles, and PLENTY of police give-aways!

So make sure you come out to Westfield Hawthorn mall on the weekend of September 13-14, 2008 to check out the fun and interactive demonstrations we will have ready for you to experience this year ... you'll never watch a cop show the same way again!

Mall hours are 10 AM - 9 PM on Saturday and 11 AM - 6 PM on Sunday. If you would like more information, contact Officer Bob Lonergan via e-mail or call 847-247-4888.
