Vernon Hills Pageant 2010

Thank you for choosing to participate in the 2010 Vernon Hills Pageant! Each year, three young ladies are chosen to represent our village as Little Miss Vernon Hills, Junior Miss Vernon Hills, and Miss Vernon Hills. As a contestant you will experience fun activities, meet new people, and find ways to become more involved with the Village of Vernon Hills. While we believe that the pageant can be a rewarding experience for all who are involved, but we do ask that you consider carefully your own desires and expectations for the pageant prior to applying for the competition. Although many talented, graceful, smart young ladies will compete for the title, only three can be crowned in the end. Please feel free to come to us with any questions, comments, or concerns along the way. We hope that you have as exciting of a time participating in the pageant as we do planning it!

COMPETITION PROCEDURES
Each contestant will compete and be scored in the following three categories:

INTERVIEW:  35% of Score
Each contestant will be interviewed the day before the on stage portion of the pageant. Contestants will be judged on their ability to communicate effectively in an interview. The judges will be looking for young ladies who can be articulate and express their opinions well.

Little Miss: Interview outfit should be a nice, casual sundress or skirt outfit. Skirt length must not be shorter than 3” above the knee. You should wear dress shoes or dress sandals but no flip flops! Please make sure you feel comfortable walking in your shoes!
Junior Miss: Interview outfit should be a nice suit, skirt outfit, or sundress. Nothing too fancy for this portion of the pageant. Skirt length must not be shorter than 3” above the knee and remember that you will need to sit down in this outfit. You should wear dress shoes that you feel comfortable walking in.
Miss: Interview outfit should be a professional suit or skirt outfit that would be worn to a job interview or business meeting. Skirt length must not be any shorter than 3” above the knee and anything too tight is not advised. Remember that you will need to sit in this outfit! You should wear heels (taupe are preferred but not required) that you feel comfortable walking and standing in.

DAYWEAR/SPEECH:  35% of Score
Each contestant will be required to model in a casual dress/suit and deliver a speech about an age appropriate topic. Speech guidelines can be found further on in this packet. Contestants will be judged on their ability to speak to a large group as well as stage presence.

Little Miss, Junior Miss, and Miss: Daywear outfit and shoes should be the same described for interview. You can wear a different outfit than that of interview but it is not required.

FORMAL GOWN/POP QUESTION:  30% of Score
The final portion of the competition will require each contestant to model in a formal gown. Each contestant within an age group will then answer the same pop question (contestants will be secluded prior to answering their question). Contestants will be judged on grace, poise, beauty, and elegance of carriage during their presentation.

Little Miss:  Your party dress can be long or short. If you choose a short dress, it must be no shorter than 3” above the knee. Wear shoes that compliment your dress and are comfortable.
Junior Miss: Your formal evening gown can be long or tea length. No dress should be shorter than tea length. Wear jewelry and shoes that compliment the dress and are comfortable.
