On Tuesday, 2/16/16, after a courageous battle against esophagus cancer, Andy was transported by ambulance from the hospital to an area hospice. As the ambulance went through town, dozens of police officers (from several agencies), friends, family members and village employees stood along Rt. 60 to show their respect, love and support for Andy. On Wednesday, 2/17/16, Andy passed away. Not only did the Vernon Hills Police Department and the entire community lose a valued member, we also lost a friend.

For more than sixteen years Officer Rheintgen served the Village of Vernon Hills with honor and dignity. We miss him and we grieve.
