The Village of Vernon Hills solicitor ordinance prohibits soliciting at any residence that displays a warning notice near the front door to the residence or the main entrance to the property. The notice must be easily observable to the person licensed to solicit. It must also be no less than 12 square inches and bear the words No Peddlers or Solicitors.
To assist residents who wish to display such a notice, the Village has laminated signs (pictured here) available free of charge. They can be picked up at the Vernon Hills Police Department Records Section, 740 Lakeview Parkway, from Monday thru Friday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. They are also available at the Village Hall, 290 Evergreen Drive, Monday thru Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. If you questions about the signs or would like to schedule an alternative time to pick one up, call 847-247-4889.
With some exceptions, most door-to-door solicitors need to be licensed by the Village. Please note that canvassing for religious or political reasons is NOT governed by the Vernon Hills solicitor ordinance.
In addition to abiding by the above sign, solicitors must peacefully depart when asked to do so.
Solicitor licenses are issued at the Vernon Hills Village Hall, 290 Evergreen Dr. See license information. Call 847-367-3704 if you need additional information.
If you encounter a solicitor who does not have a Vernon Hills solicitor license or who you believe is in violation of the information stated above, please contact the Vernon Hills Police Department immediately by calling 911.
