Residents can receive advance notices of spray events by contacting Clarke directly. Sign up for alerts, and report issues, by visiting https://www.clarke.com/customer-portal-about. You may also call the Clarke Mosquito Hotline at 630-671-3100 and ask to be added to the "Prior Notification List" for the Village of Vernon Hills. Residents will be asked to provide their name, address, and phone number, and this will allow them to receive a phone call from Clarke the day of the Village-wide spray.
Residents are also encouraged to follow the CDC’s recommendations for preventing mosquito bites:
1. Wear an EPA-approved repellent containing DEET, Picaridin, IR3535, or Oil of Lemon/Eucalyptus.
2. Limit skin exposure by wearing long pants and long sleeves. Light colored clothing is also recommended, as mosquitoes are more attracted to dark colors.
3. Limit outdoor time at dawn and dusk, when mosquitos are most active.
4. Take steps to control mosquitos indoors and outdoors
– Use air conditioning and/or screens to prevent mosquitos from coming inside your home.
– Get rid of standing water to stop mosquitos from laying eggs.
– Keep grass cut – long grass is a haven for adult mosquitos.
– Tip and/or toss items that hold water – buckets, pools, birdbaths, flowerpots, trash containers.
– Set up a fan, indoors or out. The breeze will help mosquitos away from you.
