Leave the Leaves? Yard Clean-up Info

Leaf gathering season is upon us. Please review the following information, and consider going more "green" with your orange leaves...

  • Vernon Hills Update Video: Go Green Vernon Hills-Lincolnshire members offer suggestions to handle your leaves in a more sustainable way, including mulching them into your yard, using them to insulate your garden beds, and putting them into your compost pile.
  • Please don't rake leaves into the street. The Village of Vernon Hills does not offer collection from the streets, and our equipment isn't suited for that. Raking into the street can also clog your neighborhood stormwater sewer, which can result in flooding in your neighborhood.
  • Collection is available from WM with single-use yard waste stickers or seasonal subscription collection. Leaves should be placed in Kraft paper bags or containers marked with an X. Stickers are available from WM, the Village Hall, Sullivan Center and local retailers including Mariano's and Home Depot. Collection takes place on your main garbage collection day.
  • Last yard waste collection is expected on Tuesday, November 29. This date was communicated by WM based on when local landfills have announced that they will no longer accept yard waste.
