Holiday Tree/Menorah Lighting Ceremony

The 2017 Vernon Hills Holiday Tree and Menorah Lighting Ceremony will be held at the Vernon Hills Golf Course located at 291 Evergreen Drive on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 4:30 p.m.

Help bring the holiday season in by assisting Mayor Roger Byrne and the Vernon Hills Queens flip the switch to the holiday tree. Bring the family, the neighbors, and the kids out for hot chocolate, cookies, and cider. With the assistance of the Countryside Fire District, Santa has been able to clear his calendar in order to attend this event. See you there.

Holiday Trash and Recycle Information

The Holiday season is upon the Village! Please remember that Advanced Disposal will not be picking up refuse or recycling on Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 23), Christmas (Monday, December 25), and New Years Day (Monday, January 1). Routes will be pushed back one day following a holiday. For example, residents whose collection is on Thanksgiving (Thursday) will be picked up on Friday and residents whose collection day is Friday will be picked up on Saturday.

Vernon Hills Police Support Toys For Tots

From November 1 through December 14, the Vernon Hills Police Department will again be a drop-off location for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.  Last year, we collected enough toys to fill seventeen boxes.  We’d like to repeat that again this year – or beat it.

All kinds of toys can be donated.  Some ideas for older children include sporting equipment/bags/balls, books, backpacks, cosmetics, purses, watch/wallet gift sets, bath gift sets, board games, radio control cars/trucks, hand-held electronics, skateboards/helmets, curling irons, hair straighteners, and hair dryers.

The Toys for Tots program accepts new, unwrapped items.  Realistic looking weapons or gifts with food will not be accepted.  If donated, such items will NOT be distributed.
Naturally, the Police Department drop-off box at 740 Lakeview Parkway is available 24 hours-a-day.  However, the Vernon Hills Village Hall and the Vernon Hills Public Works facility are also drop-off locations.  Visit for the hours these additional boxes are accessible.

“We hope everyone joins us in making the holidays happy for children who might otherwise receive nothing,” said Patrick L. Kreis, Chief of Police.   "It would be great if we had to empty the box every single day.”

Anyone with questions should call the Vernon Hills Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at (847) 247-4889
