On Saturday, September 8, the Deerfield Police Department will be conducting Child Safety Seat Checks.  The checks will be held between 11:00 am and 6:00 pm on the lower level parking lot near pole #23.

Maintenance at the Metra Station

Metra will be removing the existing platform pavers and replacing them with a stamped asphalt surface. They will start on August 15th and hope to complete the work on or before Labor Day.  Their operations will require a work zone of approximately 20 parking spaces near the station.  Thank you for your cooperation as these improvements are made.

Sign Up for Blackboard Connect Emergency 911 Call System

The Village of Vernon Hills uses a number our resources to keep people informed. Blackboard Connect is the Village’s reverse 911 emergency phone system used to notify people of extremely time-bound or urgent information — for instance an emergency road closure or a neighborhood utility problem.
Published telephone landlines are automatically included in the Blackboard Connect database. However if you do not have a published landline, your are urged to enroll any appropriate cellphone numbers for your household. Sign up by going to the Blackboard Connect webpage ( and creating an account using your email address. A physical address is also required, which allows messages to be routed to specific neighborhoods.

Trustee Barbara D. Oilschlager receives national leadership award

College names Richard Ammon, Ed.D. as engineering and science dean

College names Sue Fay as new HR executive director
The College of Lake County has named Sue Fay as executive director of human resources. She comes to CLC from Roosevelt University, where she served for nearly 20 years in the human resources department, starting as associate director in 1998 and becoming vice president in 2016. Car show Sept. 8 at Grayslake Campus supports scholarships
Cool cars of various types will be on display at the College of Lake County Saturday, Sept. 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The public is invited to check them out at the Techs of Tomorrow Scholarship Car Show in Parking Lots 1 and 3 at the college, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake. For details, visit

Board of Trustee Vacancy

Trustee Cynthia Hebda was elected in 2015 to a four (4) year term.  She will resign as Trustee from the Village Board on June 30.  To fill the vacancy, President Byrne, with the advice and consent of the Board of Trustees, must appoint a replacement within 60 days after the vacancy occurs.  Pursuant State Statutes, the appointment will be for a term until the next general municipal election which will occur in April of 2019. 
Any Village resident interested in being considered for appointment to fill the vacancy should send a letter of interest and resume with contact information to President Roger Byrne and Board of Trustees, Village of Vernon Hills, 290 Evergreen Drive, Vernon Hills, IL 60061.  The position will remain open until it is filled.

The Village Board meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7PM at the Village Hall.
