BINGO Vernon Hills American Legion Post 1247 will be hosting BINGO at the Vernon Hills Golf Course, 291 Evergreen Drive on the first Thursday of the month. The next event will be Thursday April 4 beginning at 6:30PM. Proceeds go to support programs sponsored by the Post, such as the Wounded Warrior Project among others. A cash bar along with food is available from the Vernon Hills Golf Course Grill.

Recycle-O-RamaRecycle-O-Rama is Saturday, May 18 from 9 am-12 pm at the Hawthorn Mall in the east parking lot (formerly Sears). The Park District is partnering with the Village of Vernon Hills, Vernon Township, State Representative Didech, SWALCO, Advanced Disposal, and Hawthorn Mall on this event. There is a limit of two boxes of paper shredding per vehicle. Latex paint costs $1/quart, $3.50/gallon, $10.50/5 gallon. Payment can be cash or credit. There will be no chemical waste recycling at this event. Items to be collected: CRT monitors, laptops, CD/DVD players, cell phones, televisions, printers, computer towers, small appliances, glasses, hearing aids, shoes, and textiles/stuffed animals.

Bunny Rock 5K and Egg HuntApril 13, 2019 and the Hawthorn Mall in Vernon Hills and the 5K race starts at 8:30 a.m. Participants receive bunny ears, neon sunglasses and a dri-fit t-shirt. The Egg Hunt is for ages 2-10 and begins at 9:45 a.m. There will be 3000 candy filled eggs along the course, a live petting zoo with over 20 animals and opportunities to have your child's picture taken with the Easter Bunny. Children will receive baskets for their eggs, bunny ears and sunglasses.
Awards: Specialized medals will be handed out to the top 3 male and female finishers in all age groups. The overall top 3 male and female finishers will also receive a Bunny Rock mug. Charity: Proceeds from the race will benefit Reach Rescue, Inc., a local no-kill animal shelter whose mission is fostering, rescuing and sheltering homeless animals.

Laschen Center Demolition Update March 29, 2019The contractor anticipates to start the demolition of the Laschen Center on April 11 and the contract calls for a 60 day completion of the work. The majority of the utilities have been disconnected and the Police Department and Fire District notified. The first steps in the project will be to install the tree protection, safety fencing and silt fence and the demolition activities will be conducted off of Evergreen Drive. After the building materials are removed, it will be backfilled with soil and a grass turf established. We thank you for your patience.

When his wife, The Old Woman is drawn away by a mysterious melody sparking memories of their shared past, The Old Man must decide between duty (and routine) and love (and adventure). Luckily for audiences everywhere, he chooses the latter, and what follows is an imaginative sea-faring epic, encompassing apocalyptic storms, civil wars, leviathans of the deep, and cantankerous ghosts, as well as the fiercest obstacle of all: change. Join the cast as they perform this original book, music, and lyrics by PigPen Theatre Company. One of the PigPen founding members is VHHS Alumni, Matt Nuernberger,VHHS Class of 2007. Matt was active in all areas of performing arts while he attended Vernon Hills High School, holding lead roles in numerous musical and theatrical productions including The Music Man, Amadeus, Noises Off, and Story Theatre. He appeared in two All-State Productions was named a VHHS Honored Alumni in 2014. After graduating from VHHS, he attended Carnegie Mellon University. While at Carnegie Mellon, he met and became friends with six classmates who would ultimately join him in founding the theatre troupe and band, PigPen Theatre Company. Vernon Township Free Shredding EventVernon Township Highway Department will be hosting a shredding event on Monday, April 22, 2019 at the Vernon Administration Office, 3050 N. Main St., Buffalo Grove. Shredding will be from 12:00p.m.- 2:30p.m. Shred your canceled or unused checks, old insurance policies, old bills, old medical records and invoices. PLEASE NO MAGAZINES, NEWSPAPERS, MANILA FOLDERS, OR BINDERS!
This an on-site shredding event, however, if the truck fills up there will be locked containers on-site where you will be able to safely put your documents. Shredding services will be provided by Opportunity Secure Data Destruction.

Back by Popular DemandVERNON TOWNSHIP’S 11TH ANNUAL COMMUNITY GARAGE SALE WHEN: Saturday, June 8, 2019 (Rain or Shine) TIME: 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. - (Set-up starts at 7:00 a.m.) Vernon Township will be hosting the 11th Annual Community Garage Sale in the west parking lot of the Prairie View Train Station. The township will be selling spaces (16 ft x 17 ft) for $25.00. The proceeds from the sale of spaces benefit the Vernon Township Food Pantry Inc. Crafters are welcome to participate. Applications are available at the Vernon Township Administration Building or online at www.vernontownship.com. Spaces are available on a first come first serve basis. Spaces may be reserved in person at the township office or, if mailing the application, spaces will be assigned by the township. Everyone is invited to participate, however space is limited so reserve your spaces early. Deadline for reserving a space is May 24th. You will need to bring your own supplies such as tables, chairs, clothes racks and shade screens. Clean up is the responsibility of the space holder at the end of the sale.
