Countryside Fire District Fire Safety Reminder

As we all look forward to the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend please keep in mind to: Watch What You Heat! Keep a safe zone for children and never hold a child while cooking. Wear short, close fitting or tightly rolled sleeves when cooking. Keep anything that can catch fire — paper towels, oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, towels and curtains — away from your stove top. Turn pot handles away from edge and have a lid nearby to cover overheated food. Never use water on a grease fire. If a fire flare's up in the oven or microwave, keep the door shut and turn off the heat. When in doubt call it out 911. Practice fire safety every day and have a Happy Thanksgiving!

Vernon Hills Police Support Toys For Tots

From now until December 9, the Vernon Hills Police Department will again be a drop-off location for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.  Last year, we collected enough toys to fill fifteen boxes.  We’d like to repeat that again this year – or beat it.
All kinds of toys can be donated.  Some ideas for older children include sporting equipment/bags/balls, books, backpacks, cosmetics, purses, watch/wallet gift sets, bath gift sets, board games, radio control cars/trucks, hand-held electronics, skateboards/helmets, curling irons, hair straighteners, and hair dryers.
The Toys for Tots program accepts new, unwrapped items.  Realistic looking weapons or gifts with food will not be accepted.  If donated, such items will NOT be distributed.
Donations can be dropped off at the following drop box locations:

  • Vernon Hills Police Department, 740 Lakeview Parkway, 24 hours-a-day
  • Vernon Hills Village Hall, 290 Evergreen Drive, Mon – Fri, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
  • Vernon Hills Public Works, 490 Greenleaf Drive, Mon – Fri, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

“We hope everyone joins us in making the holidays happy for children who might otherwise receive nothing,” said Patrick L. Kreis, Chief of Police.   "It would be great if we had to empty the box every single day.”
Anyone with questions should call the Vernon Hills Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at (847) 247-4889
