Friday Fish Fry at The Muni

Friday nights are better at The Muni, 291 Evergreen Drive. Join us every Friday through April 3 for All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry. No cooking, no cleanup – just great food and a relaxed atmosphere. Call for Military Banner Honorees

Free program to honor active and veteran service members.
The Village of Vernon Hills and American Legion Vernon Post 1247 will again partner to honor those who serve or have served in our military. Please consider completing a simple application to honor yourself, a loved one or a friend through the program, which creates a banner that will be displayed on our Village light poles this coming summer. Hawthorn Mall hosts a number of special events for the community, including Bunny's Big Welcome on March 14, Easter Egg-Ventures on March 21,  and the new Hologram Zoo.

Hawthorn D73 Kindergarten Registration Season

Families of children who will turn 5 by September 1 are encouraged to get their children signed up for fall kindergarten now. Information from Hawthorn District 73 is available on the Kindergarten Meeting Poster, provided in several languages. More information, including school boundary information and the Hawthorn Kindergarten Pre-Registration Form, is available on the Hawthorn Kindergarten Enrollment webpage. 
Note: Children who turn 5 by September 1, 2026 are eligible for public school kindergarten in the fall, but they must proactively sign up with their school system, depending on where they live. Children living within the 60061 zip code attend school in several different school districts, depending on the address of the residence.

Race to Restock the Hawthorn Food Pantry!

Food Drive to Support Students and Families of Hawthorn D73
Currently, 384 Hawthorn students receive SNAP benefits and 1008 qualify for free or reduced lunch. With the interruption of benefits, all of those students and families are vulnerable to hunger. Hawthorn District 73 has always supported their community by providing food and clothing, as they are able. You can help by donating nonperishable food or money. Community members may drop off at District Office, 841 West End Court. You may also give quickly, easily and security through the Key to 73 Foundation Donation website – https://omella.com/7x8ri. Thank you for your generosity.

Support the Midwest Veterans Closet

Requesting new or gently used coats and winter outerwear for veterans and their families – all size and ages!
While the annual GLMV Veteran's Coat Drive officially wrapped up on November 20, the need continues. If you have cold weather gear or other support for our veterans and their families, you can continue to drop off at VHPD or Village Hall, or directly with the Midwest Veterans Closet. The closet provides all manner of support to not only veterans but also those who are currently serving, including their families. 

Tool Library of Lake County

For a small annual membership fee, all Lake County residents can borrow a variety of tools, and get advice from the knowledgable volunteers. Consider supporting with donations of tools, funds or your volunteer time. Visit www.toollib.org to learn more or lend a hand.

Lake County Envision 2050

Lake County Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) Survey Now Open
Lake County government asks residents to take a short survey to provide input to the LRTP as they work on identifying and prioritizing transportation projects for the next 25 years. Visit the Envision 2050 webpage to take the survey.

Free CPR Classes from Countryside Fire

Classes run from 6 to 10 p.m. on select dates starting in June
Free to residents in CFPD District; $65 for non residents. Space is limited. Two types of classes offered – one geared more to healthcare workers and one developed for the general public. Register online today through the Countryside Fire website.

WM Reminds Us to Recycle Right!

Our Village waste hauler WM (formerly Waste Management) reminds us of a three important recycling tips:

  • Recycle clean bottles, cans, paper and cardboard
  • Keep food and liquid out of your recycling containers
  • No loose plastic bags and no bagged recyclables – they jam up the sorting machines

Vernon Hills Senior Center

The Vernon Hills Senior Center offers a variety of activities and special events, including luncheons, exercise classes, game times and trips. Open to those 55 and over. Check the Vernon Hills Seniors webpage for information and a waiver/membership form.

Regional Transportation Survey

The Chicago Metro Agency for Planning (CMAP) is creating a regional transportation plan that includes our area. Please provide your input on this very short survey. Learn more about the project by visiting the RTP webpage.

Pace Transportation Survey

Midwest Veterans Closet

While the GLMV Winter Coat Drive has concluded,  the need goes on all year long. Donation boxes at Village Hall, Public Works, VHPD and other locations around town. Midwest Veterans Closet supports vets and their families. Accepting clothing for men, women and children – special request for new underwear.

Lake County Pet Services

Lake County Department of Animal Care and Control offers low cost pet vaccinations and other services. County residents can learn more by visiting the Animal Care and Control webpage.
