About the Village Alarm Ordinances
Like most communities, the Village of Vernon Hills has ordinances that cover alarm systems and false alarms.
Residential Alarm Systems
No permit is required for the installation of a wireless residential system. Other than the fine structure for false alarms, there are no Village fees.
Things to Remember
Here are some things to remember:
- With only a couple of exceptions, the Village does not allow any automatic dialing devices.
- The alarm shall not make a sound similar to that of sirens on emergency vehicles or of civil defense warning systems.
- There must be an alternate power source for the alarm system to prevent false alarms due to a power failure.
- Alarm users are allowed only three false alarms in any calendar year. After three false alarms in a calendar year, there is a fine of $50 for each false alarm.
