Recovered Bicycles
In any given year, the Vernon Hills Police Department recovers approximately 40 bicycles. Usually, only one or two of these bicycles finds its way back to the owner. With no way of determining ownership, the police department usually ends up either giving the bikes to charity or having them auctioned off.
Why Register Your Bike?
In addition to locking it up, the next best thing that you can do is to register your bike with the Police Department. Registering your bicycle is more than just placing a sticker on it. It also provides you and the police with a written record of the pertinent information, including the serial number. Having this information enables the police to enter the bike into the State computer system, should it ever be stolen.
Not sure where to find your bikes serial number? This might help you.
