Building Code Update - Effective March 1, 2026

The Village has approved an update to the Building Code effective March 1, 2026.   The municipal code available online does not yet reflect the amendment to Chapter 5 (Building Regulations).  Please see Ordinance 2026-008 for a full list of local amendments.  

EV Charger Requirements

As of January 2026, the Illinois Vehicle Charging Act provisions for electric vehicle charging are required in conjunction with the construction of new residential units. Substantial renovations and conversions also trigger this requirement. See our Electric Vehicle Charger Requirements handout for more information.

Building Permits - Most Frequently Asked Questions 

• Turnaround time: Typically 15 business days for residential projects and 20 days for commercial.
• Payment: We currently accept cash or check only.  Credit card payment may be accepted later in 2026.
• Contractor registration.  We do not register contractors.
• Completion bonds.  This is a bond required for most permit types that is refunded on successful completion of final inspections.  We strongly recommend that contractors supply this bond, even if the property owner is paying for the permit. 
• Licenses: Required for electricians, roofers, and plumbers (055/058).  License copies will not be accepted via fax.
